My name is Elizabeth Hoefle, and I serve as the Business Manager for Bluesource Inc. In my role, I oversee the operational backbone of the organization, supporting our employees through payroll administration, human resources, and office management. I also coordinate company-wide and annual events that help foster connection and strengthen our culture. I’m proud to support the team behind the scenes and ensure our day-to-day operations run smoothly so everyone can focus on the impactful work we do.

Did you always dream of a career in the tech industry? What would a 5-year-old or 10-year-old you say her dream job was?

Roo

My mum said, “Asians do business!” so I felt like my path was pretty much set. From a young age I saw my parents and family as business owners, from property portfolios to running a clothes shop, I took a keen interest and used to help my dad after school. It wasn’t until my dad bought me a pc and said “right this is for you too, you can help me with the business.” Alas, that’s not what happened; instead, I actually liked designing leaflets and posters, so I knew applications were more my interest, so I studied a course in IT applications.

I was lucky, the place where I did a 4-week placement offered me a job, and I would say that is where it began! It was an IT training company, so I decided to test the waters, and I now have total respect for IT trainers, it’s a knackering job. It was around 2004 when I really found my interest in IT, I really found I enjoyed messaging, as in Exchange. I was one of the first to attempt to deploy Exchange 2010 when it was out. I failed, knowledge base articles were nonexistent, but a saving grace was that an MS engineer couldn’t fix the issue straight away either. Phew, I thought at the time!

Bluesource UK was where I really found my feet and was part of the data migration team (around 2011) and clearly still interested in migrating data!

I wouldn’t say I always dreamed of working in the tech industry. In many ways, I grew into this role over time and inherited responsibilities that allowed me to learn and evolve along the way. It has truly been a rewarding learning experience.

If you asked 10-year-old me what I wanted to do, she would have said something centered around understanding people — why we react the way we do, how we process emotions, and how we find solutions to challenges in our behaviors and relationships. Psychology and understanding human behavior always fascinated me. In many ways, working in human resources and supporting employees allows me to tap into that same interest in people and how we grow and thrive.

What is your proudest achievement with Bluesource?

Roo

Too early to say, ask me next year!

Elizabeth

My proudest achievement with Bluesource is how much I’ve grown and learned along the way, while helping support the company’s continued growth. Being able to contribute to an environment where people feel happy, supported, and able to collaborate effectively is incredibly meaningful to me.

Working for such a strong, values-driven company — and seeing so many employees build long careers here — is something I consider an achievement in itself. It speaks to the culture and the people. Knowing that I’ve played even a small part in helping foster that positive environment is something I’m truly proud of.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is “Give To Gain” emphasizing the power of reciprocity and support. Are there any colleagues, connections, or anyone in your life you’d like to give a supportive shout-out to?

Roo

There are too many to names to name here!

Growing up, women in tech wasn’t really a big thing. I found myself shying away from saying, “I know how to fix that,” or raising my profile and would quietly work away. In my experience, there was a lot of sexism in IT, and it was very much a rise or fall situation. I learnt the art of sarcasm very quickly, which got me through some awkward situations, of course it should never have been like that, but sometimes you just got to pick your battles.

Girl Power did become a thing in my family, and I have to mention the women in my family, very independent, strong and successful women in my life, my cousins, aunts, and nieces. All my aunts tell us their stories, of how growing up was tough as a woman, the expectation of marriage, how to dress, and where they can go, but that only made them more powerful and amazing role models. Growing up with all these amazing women was never dull.

So just to mention a few people, otherwise I will be here awhile! Matthew Leiter, who I have classed as a friend, from his first day at Mimecast, he has always been so supportive during some difficult times in my life. My old boss, Hany Mustapha, who is no longer with us, but thanks to his very strong character and support, he always said, “if there is an issue, tell me, but come with a solution,” that has always stuck with me.

My parents; my mum, she amazes me, how strong she is, widowed young, with 5 of us to deal with ( and I am the easy going one) she continues to indirectly teach us, suffering too many loses in her life and still wakes up in the morning. She gives me hope. My dad passed away when I was 18, but I think we all are strong, due to how he was with us as kids, encouraged us to stand tall and on our own two feet and even allowed us to make those silly mistakes, to then give us his unusual wisdom, and we didn’t even realise it!

And finally my late baby brother, he was the kindest, most caring brother, never complained once, even when he was going through some difficult times, he still always smiled and gave me strength, he handled tricky situations with calm and diplomacy, with the biggest cheesy grin. As I write this, I realise how lucky I am to have/had such amazing people in my life.

I would like to give a heartfelt shout-out to the managers at Bluesource. Their continued dedication, leadership, and hard work truly make a difference for all of us. They invest significant time and energy into supporting their teams, fostering growth, and ensuring the company continues to move forward.

Their commitment often happens behind the scenes, but it plays a critical role in shaping the positive culture we experience every day. Their efforts help make Bluesource a great place to work, and that kind of leadership embodies the spirit of “Give To Gain.”
